Coronavirus survivor shares shocking photo of his body in hospital

Young nurse infected with COVID-19 shares shocking before and after photos

He had no preexisting conditions and was a fitness geek, who worked out nearly every day.

In early March, Schultz and his boyfriend, 29-year-old DJ Josh Hebblethwaite attended the Winter Party Festival in Miami Beach, a circuit party that Hebblethwaite was working at. "This was one of the most frustrating parts", he recalled. He warned people and asked them to be careful as it does not matter if you are young or old, whether you have preexisting conditions or not, it (COVID-19) can affect you.

Posting the shocking before and after pictures on Instagram, Mike wrote: "I wanted to show everyone how badly being sedated for 6 weeks on a ventilator or intubated can be".

Now, though, Schultz is slimmer than ever, even going so far as to share an Instagram photo to show his followers how much weight he lost due to the virus's deadly condition.

As he continues his recovery, Schultz told Buzzfeed that both he and Hebblethwaite have received some backlash online for their attendance at the Winter Party. "It exhausted me to stand up from the bed for a few minutes to take the picture", he said. He said holding his cellphone felt heavy and his hands shook while trying to type.

He was allowed to the hospital on March 16, afterwards his signs went from normal to a fever of 103°F.

But Mr Schultz said there were "no real restrictions in place, though - no lockdowns".

'We knew it was out there... "We just thought, 'Well, we gotta wash our hands more and be wary of touching our face'".

He was admitted to hospital two days after he arrived in Boston, and he soon developed pneumonia.

That's when she let him know he hadn't been in the ward for one week but he'd been there for six.

Schultz was transported to a larger hospital within four days, where he was intubated for 4 1/2 weeks. "It was definitely scary". "But I was so happy to see him at that point". It took four and a half weeks for him to start breathing on his own again. "I didn't even recognize myself", he informed CNN. "I pretty much cried when I looked in the mirror", Schultz added.

"The negative stuff bothers me", he said, "but it doesn't bother me that much, because I've gotten so much positive feedback".

After being released from hospital, he enjoyed two double cheeseburgers, small fries and a strawberry shake he ordered at McDonald's, although he said his taste was somewhat affected.
