NY man kills father during Zoom conference call

US Man Stabs Father to Death During Zoom Video Call as Attendees Watch Horror

The investigation is continuing, police said.

A NY suburb was in shock Friday over a gruesome murder that saw a 32-year-old man stab and kill his father, who was attending a Zoom conference that included about 20 participants.

A man in Long Island, New York, stabbed his father to death Thursday (May 21) while the latter was on a Zoom call with at least 20 people.

Police also declined to describe the nature of the Zoom call, citing privacy concerns.

Witnesses recalled hearing Powers' heavy breathing over the call.

During the Zoom call, participants watched 72-year-old Dwight Powers slump from his chair and disappear off-screen, The Washington Post reported.

Naomi Osaka tops Serena Williams as world's highest-earning female athlete
Osaka now holds the No. 29 spot among the 100 highest-paid athletes in the world, while Williams is right behind her at No. 33. Osaka is No 29 overall, with Williams at No 33, on Forbes' annual list of the 100 top-earning athletes.

It's unclear if any of the people on the video call actually saw the son stab Powers, Beyrer told Newsday. He faces a charge of second-degree murder, Suffolk County police said.

A 32-year-old NY man was charged with second-degree murder Thursday, accused of fatally stabbing his father while the older man was participating in a Zoom call.

Police quickly apprehended him nearby, they said.

Scully-Powers fled the scene by jumping out of a window.

Scully-Powers' lawyer, Jon Manley, said they were only able to speak for about five minutes before Friday's video arraignment and that it would be premature for him to comment on the case. WABC reported that Scully-Powers answered the door, before slamming it closed and running upstairs.
