Senate committee votes to authorize subpoenas in Hunter Biden investigation

US Senate issues first subpoena in Obama admin probe

The Democratic investigation conducted by the House along party lines sought to remove the president from office on the basis that he allegedly pressured the Ukrainian government into investigating Hunter Biden.

The chairman of the Republican-led panel, Wisconsin Sen.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham is seeking authority to subpoena numerous former Obama-era officials including ex-FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper as part of his panel's review of the origins of the investigation into Russian election interference.

Engel's letter comes a day after the Senate Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Sen.

Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott expressed support for the probe, saying lawmakers "need to get to the truth of the Bidens' relationship with Burisma", and adding that the hearings "will provide the Senate with the full picture".

Biden campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement that Johnson was "running a political errand" for Trump.

35 percent of coronavirus patients could be asymptomatic, CDC says
However, CDC's webpage does mention that touching surfaces may still be risky if the person then touches their face. The new guidelines , however, warned that the virus "can spread from people to animals in some situations".

It also says that not only have they "provided the information requested", but "offered, if helpful, to be interviewed by the Committee". "The American people deserve to know the extent to which the USA -based, Democrat-led consulting company leveraged its connections within the Obama administration to try to gain access to and influence US government agencies on behalf of its corrupt client, Burisma", the spokesman said in a written statement after the vote.

Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., the top Democrat on the committee, said Wednesday that the panel was "going down a risky road" at a time of national crisis. "The committee should not conduct politically motivated investigations".

Tramontano questioned why the committee wanted to vote on the subpoena.

Democratic leaders jumped on the vote. The president was acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the subpoenas were "a clear act of retaliation and political retribution meant to help the president keep his job". He has said he would issue a report before the November 3 general election. "I will bring that up all the time", he said then.

House Democrats accused Trump of attempting to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine past year, and of pressuring Zelensky to restart an investigation into Burisma and the Bidens which was halted in 2016 following Vice President Biden's personal intervention. Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate the Bidens during a July phone call that was later revealed by a whistle-blower's complaint.
