Toronto to reopen more than 850 park amenities this week

City of Orillia to reopen some outdoor amenities as restrictions ease

The building will not be open for meetings other than official City meetings and with attendance limited to no more than 10.

Off-leash dog parks are also open.

Beaches, outdoor playgrounds, play structures and equipment, including splash pads and public washrooms, are also closed until further notice.

On the May 23 weekend the city plans to reopen picnic shelters, 300 soccer and multi-use outdoor fields, 300 baseball diamonds, 150 basketball courts, and 600 tennis courts.

Anyone using the amenities is reminded to maintain at least two metres away from anyone else, and avoid any gatherings of more than five people.

The use of tennis courts and multi-use fields is allowed for unorganized, casual play by individuals. Greenhouses, nurseries and conservatories, High Park Zoo, and Riverdale Farm also remain closed, as do the waterfront parking lots.

In keeping with physical distancing measures, if you arrive at a park space that is too busy or crowded, the city asks that you wait until there is enough space to properly practice physical distancing or return at another time.

The City of Toronto's municipally run golf courses are open for the 2020 season under public health guidelines.

The restrooms in the parks will be open, but will not be cleaned twice daily.

The reopening of park amenities will continue into next week, as staff work with Toronto Public Health to open lawn bowling facilities and outdoor bocce.

The City of Toronto reminds residents that those who fail to follow the temporary physical distancing bylaw can receive a $1,000 ticket.

"I'm confident the vast majority of residents will continue to respect physical distancing rules while using these amenities to help us stop the spread of COVID-19", said Mayor John Tory.
