Family of UConn murder suspect Peter Manfredonia urges him to surrender

Peter Manfredonia

Separately, the Connecticut State Police (CSP) said that Manfredonia was not caught in New Jersey, as some media had apparently misreported, but that the manhunt continued, involving state police and its law enforcement partners.

According to published news reports, in addition to allegedly killing a 62-year-old man who was helping him in Willington, Conn., Manfredonia is also wanted in connection with the murder of 23-year-old acquaintance Nicholas J. Eisele of Derby, Conn. Police also discovered that Eisele's girlfriend was missing from their home; she was found safe in Patterson, New Jersey, and told authorities that Manfredonia had abducted her.

Manfredonia, who is believed to be armed with several guns stolen during a home invasion, was last seen on Sunday wearing a white T-shirt, dark shorts and carrying a large duffel bag near train tracks in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Police say an Uber dropped Manfredonia off at a Walmart in East Stroudsburg on Sunday. "So, Peter, from your parents, we love you, please turn yourself in".

Manfredonia is being hunted by CT state police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation after allegedly killing two people with a machete knife before abducting another woman, who was rescued alive on Sunday.

" And we're learning Peter Manfredonia's parents have hired Hamden criminal defense attorney Michael Dolan, who will be speaking live to the press at 6pm. Please call us. We are waiting here to listen to you".

Last Friday, he allegedly attacked Ted DeMers, 62, and another man with "an edged weapon", according to The Connecticut Post, after the two of them offered him a ride after seeing Manfredonia walking on the side of the road.

The department has since asked the FBI, in addition to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprhension, to investigate Floyd's death. The Mayor of Minneapolis has expressed outrage, saying, "When you hear someone calling for help, you're supposed to help".

A manhunt is under way in the East Stroudsburg area for a suspect in two homicides who is wanted by authorities in CT and may now be in Monroe County.

"At this point a connection can not be confirmed, but the location of this theft is near the area Peter Manfredonia was last observed on surveillance video", the update states. He might try to use another ride-hailing service to flee, the agency said. It was stolen about 9 p.m., state police said in what they described as an update to a be-on-the-lookout alert from Stroud Area Regional police. Nobody wants any harm to come to you.

State police cautioned that he is 'armed and unsafe'.

The attorney representing Manfredonia says he has a history of mental illness and has sought help in the past.

Investigators say Manfredonia is from Newtown and is a student at UConn.

The second victim, Nicholas Eisele, was found dead at his home Sunday in Derby, which is about 60 miles south-west of Willington.

'The university expresses its deepest, most heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families in this frightful, incomprehensible tragedy. "They are all in our thoughts", spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz told CNN.
