Rain forces postponement of NASCAR Cup Series race

Denny Hamlin drives during the NASCAR Cup Series auto race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday in Concord N.C

Upon the resumption of the season two weeks ago, series chiefs elected, with the consent of North Carolina state governor Roy Cooper, to run two races in SC at Darlington and a further two at Charlotte, with the proximity of both circuits to the major NASCAR hub in Charlotte being a key factor in that decision. The race was rescheduled for May 28.

Wednesday evening's set up 500 k Cup Series race was held off due to rain from residues of Tropical Storm Bertha, which covered the Charlotte location a lot of the day. Under social distancing guidelines, TV can't turn around broadcast equipment and crews as quickly.

Rain is wreaking havoc with NASCAR's plans to race seven times in 11 days.

Hamlin lost ballast from his auto during the pace laps of Sunday's running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Andrew Cuomo: ‘We All Failed’ at Projecting the Coronavirus
Cuomo did not say whether the nursing home topic came up during the meeting with Trump. He repeated New York City was attacked with the coronavirus from "Europe".

This is the third Cup Series race of four scheduled from May 17-27 to be impacted by rain. Charlotte will join Darlington Raceway as just the second track since 1981 to hold three Cup races in a single year.

Charlotte-native William Byron will lead the field to green, with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman joining him on the front row.

Seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson will start last because his auto was disqualified in post-race inspection after he finished second.
