Third Pixel Feature Drop Adds Battery, Safety Improvements

Android update delivers new ‘Bedtime’ features focused on improving sleep

For those unfamiliar with Wind Down/Bedtime Mode, it's a suite of tools/settings to help you disconnect at night. When it's enabled, Bedtime mode uses DND (Do Not Disturb) to silence notifications, calls, and texts during sleep.

The Pixel 5 might be the Google phone everyone's talking about, but the search giant's existing handsets will see a pretty comprehensive update this week that adds a number of features big and small. Also, enabling Bedtime mode will make your phone fade the colors to black and white. You can also save a transcript directly to Google Docs for easy sharing. Parents can create a bedtime schedule that's adjusted for certain days and weekends. But Google is announcing the features today as part of its other Bedtime mode changes.

Here, you can set daily sleep and wake times. You can see a full list of these improvements below. This way, you can adjust your bedtime if needed to sync up with tomorrow's schedule - even if that means diverting from your typical bedtime schedule.

You can also set a bedtime reminder in YouTube to let you know when it's time to stop watching cat videos. Bedtime Mode is available on all devices with Digital Wellbeing and parental controls. Find more details about the new features below. "And with the latest updates to the Personal Safety app, your Pixel is giving you more options to help keep you safe in an emergency". Google is making that more official along with some other goodies.

The sunrise alarm was first introduced with the Pixel 3 and Pixel Stand in 2018. The Clock app is getting a new "Bedtime" tab with several tools for helping you get better sleep. Starting today, Google began rolling out the latest security patch for its Pixel devices.

Google says Pixel 2 and later phones can now predict when your phone's battery is likely to run out of juice given your smartphone usage and take extra steps to reduce resource consumption of apps that want to run in the background in order to squeeze out some extra battery life. Plus, the app's auto crash detection feature will be coming to the Pixel 3 after originally only being offered on the Pixel 4. There's also a new Safety Check feature created to send out alerts in potentially risky situations. After the amount of time you set expires, the app will ask for a safety check to make sure you're ok. If you need immediate help, you can have the app notify your emergency contacts and share your real-time location with Google Maps so they or someone else can come help you. A new feature will allow you to set up a scheduled check-in time where you'll be required to confirm your safety.
