While launching the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan, the Prime Minister said, today is a historic day as a huge campaign has been started for the welfare of the poor people and for their employment. The Prime Minister said, it is the endeavour of the Government that workers get jobs near home.

Anganwadi centres, Rural roads, rural housing, Railway works, RURBAN Mission in rural areas which are taking shape of urban areas, solar pumpset, laying of fibre optic cables, jal jeevan are other various works included in the 25 public works.

"The people in villages have emerged as exemplars in fighting corona", Modi said, adding that their fortitude and discipline to ward off the epidemic is a lesson for the city folk, and a shining example for the world. Mr. Modi interacted with some people who came back to their villages after the lockdown.

Modi also highlighted that internet was being used more in villages than cities.

The Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyaan was launched by Modi via video conference in a village in Khagaria district of Bihar in the presence of the chief ministers of five states - Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand - and a minister from Odisha.

Shah said the scheme will be implemented in villages of 116 districts in six states to provide employment and inclusive development opportunities in rural India and 25 such schemes, which are being run by the central government, will be added to it.

The scheme will be a coordinated effort by 12 different ministries, including rural development, panchayati raj, road transport and highways, mines, drinking water and sanitation, environment, railways, petroleum and natural gas, new and renewable energy, border roads, telecom and agriculture.

Beginning his address the Prime Minister said that every Bihari is proud of the valour shown by the personnel of 16 Bihar regiment in the violent face-off with Chinese troops which took place on June 15-16 in Ladakh.

The villages across 116 districts in six states participated in the programme through the Common Service Centres and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. The 116 districts that have been chosen, together account for over 67 lakh migrant workers which is almost two thirds of the total returnee migrants. This scheme has been inspired by migrant workers. Later it could be extended, the officials said.
