17th Century Painting of Virgin Mary Ruined During Botched Restoration

Behold this Spanish Baroque painting restoration which went terribly wrong

Here's how the Virgin Mary looked originally.

A painting by famous Spanish Baroque artist Bartolomé Esteban Murillo is the latest masterpiece to have been disfigured in a botched restoration job.

However, while the painting may have ended up cleaner, it also ended up completely ruined.

Desperate to correct the issue, the unnamed furniture restorer then attempted to correct the damage he had done but only succeeded in making it worse. It appears all went according to plan until the restorer got to the Virgin Mary's face, which is when either stage fright set in or the restorer became inspired to improvise a little.

In that case, an amateur art restorer in the small village of Borja, Spain, turned her attention to a fresco of Jesus Christ called "Ecce Homo" ("Behold the Man"), painted in 1930 by Elías García Martínez. The works undergo this type of non-professional intervention, and can cause change irreversible.

The younger Ali said he believes a lot of this divisive behavior is being pushed by Democrat politicians with their own agenda. He specifically called out the BLM movement saying, "I think it's racist". "It's pitting black people against everyone else".

CONSERVATION EXPERTS in Spain are calling for tighter restrictions on the laws surrounding the restoration of fine artworks. This legislative lack leads to disastrous interventions that from time to time they come, especially alarms when it comes to Romanesque carvings or Renaissance images of great value.

"We see this kind of thing time and time again and yet it keeps on happening", Fernando Carrera, a professor at the Galician School for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, told the Guardian. "Let's be honest... They destroy things".

But we aren't totally surprised, as Spain has no regulation or laws outlining who can restore an artwork meaning basically anyone can apply for the position.

"Paradoxically, it shows just how important professional restorers are".

"We only find out about them when people report them to the press or on social media, but there are numerous situation when works are undertaken by people who aren't trained", she said.
