CBSE cancels 10, 12 board exams scheduled for July 1-15, Centre tells SC

CBSE, ICSE Class 12, Class 10 exam, JEE, NEET Latest Updates: The upcoming CBSE and ICSE Class XII and Class X exams have been cancelled by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and ICSE Board respectively.

The board has already scrapped class 10th and 12th exams across almost 250 schools overseas.

Cases in Delhi and Mumbai which also has a large number of CBSE students led to the consideration of cancelling the exams based on the PIL filed, and the Supreme Court asking the board to reconsider on conducting the exams. He said that as soon as conditions will be conducive, we could conduct the CBSE class 12 examinations for students who opt for it.

With the remaining CBSE and ICSE Board examinations for classes X and XII, scheduled to be held in July, getting cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all eyes have now turned to competitive exams like JEE (Main) 2020 and NEET 2020 which are held for admissions into undergraduate engineering and medical courses.

The CBSE board exams for both class 10 and class 12 is scheduled to begin from July 1. "We took this decision due to logistic [al] issues".

In April, the CBSE had notified that remaining examinations will be conducted for only 29 papers and the rest would be scrapped.

The details of assessment for those students who do not want to appear for the test will be published by July 15. "Let them declare the result as soon as possible", he said.

The Bench said it was for CBSE and government to coordinate. The apex court bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar had also said that the expert body was in the process of taking a final decision on CBSE exams "very shortly and hopefully by tomorrow (June 24)". Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have conveyed inability to conduct the examinations, Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta informed Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by parents seeking the cancellation of the board exams. CBSE shared this decision in its reply to the Supreme Court. In Telangana, however, students who missed the exams would be given a second chance in July.
