PlayStation Is Offering $50,000 To Users Who Find PSN Security Flaws

Playstation 5 Console

It is a reward system for researchers or whoever finds a bug in Sony's PlayStation related devices and reports it to the company, so it can patch it before the same is exploited.

Sony has paid out bounties totalling around $174,000 since launching this earlier private program, with $40,000 the biggest bounty so far, according to PlayStation's bug bounty page on HackerOne.

While the rewards table displayed on the bug bounty program's HackerOne entry lists a $50,000 reward for critical PlayStation 4 security vulnerabilities, Sony says that all the amounts listed "represent the minimum bounty for each severity category". Microsoft obviously have a much broader set of systems, software and infrastructure to be concerned about, with the Xbox bounty rewards ranging from $500 to $20,000. "We believe that through close partnerships with the security research community we can deliver a safer place to play".

"PlayStation will determine, in its sole discretion, whether a bounty will be awarded", HackerOne stated. Sony has divided the rewards into critical, high severity, medium severity, and low severity groups.

EU regulator recommends approving remdesivir as first Covid-19 treatment
The drugmaker has signed licensing agreements with a bevy of Indian drugmakers including Cipla Ltd and Hetero Labs Ltd. Most of these patients were on oxygen support, receiving high flow oxygen or non-invasive ventilation.

The table below outlines the estimated rewards for each level of vulnerability on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Network. A critical bug on the PSN will pay from $3,000, a high-severity bug $1,000, medium severity $400, and low severity $100. The operating system includes the now released or beta version of system software.

The program's scope covers reports on the PlayStation 4 system, operating system, accessories, and the PlayStation Network (PSN).

Successful reports of critical vulnerabilities in the PS4 hardware and operating system will net security researchers bounties of at least $50,000. And, the reported bug or vulnerability should be new and not previously reported.
