EU’s external borders will remain closed to most foreigners

Reopening: Nigeria, US, Others Excluded From List Of Travellers Permitted To Enter Europe

The European Union will allow Australians to enter from July 1 - but Aussies will have to wait until the country's travel ban is lifted before they can jet overseas.

As had been widely expected, the U.S. - where the coronavirus is now resurging - will not be on that list.

The full list of 14 countries is Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, and Uruguay.

China, where the virus originated, will also be offered entry on the condition of reciprocal arrangements.

"The European Union has an internal process to determine from which countries it would be safe to accept travellers", he said, adding that it was "based on health criteria".

The 27 European Union nations are finalising a list of countries whose citizens will be allowed to enter as restrictions ease.

Iran issues arrest warrant for US President Trump
The U.S. airstrike that killed Soleimani was championed by Defense Secretary Mark Esper as a "decisive defensive action". Mehr claimed Trump would be prosecuted as soon as he stands down presidency after his term ends, Fars reported.

This requires that countries allowed entry have coronavirus infection rates equal to or better than the EU.

Brussels fears that opening up to countries outside in an ad hoc way could lead to the reintroduction of border controls between nations inside the Schengen area, threatening once again Europe's cherished principle of free movement, which allows people and goods to cross borders without checks.

But EU officials hope having the recommendations in place means the member states will reopen their borders in lockstep.

Schengenvisainfo.com reported that the European Union Commission released a list of 54 countries that qualified for travel into Europe as the union opens its borders that were shut to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Australian citizens and residents are now banned from travelling overseas without an exemption.
