The number of coronavirus infections in India has reached 509,306 after more than 18,500 new cases were added to the tally, government figures, released on Saturday, have shown. The number of active cases stands at 2,10,120, while 3,21,722 people have recovered, and one patient has migrated, according to the updated data.

India recorded close to 20,000 Covid-19 cases in a single day for the first time on Sunday, taking the tally to 5,28,859.

It said the doubling rate of COVID-19 cases increased to 14.8 days on Friday from 7.9 days on June 11, when there were 3,430 cases. "The total number of samples tested, up to June 28 is 83,98,362", the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said in a statement.
