Seven die as 'separatist' gunmen attack Pakistan Stock Exchange

Pakistan Stock Exchange attack: Terrorists use grenades and guns in Karachi - many injured

Armed men attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange building in Karachi on Monday, killing at least three people - two guards and one policeman - as well as the four assailants, according to police.

Separatists have been fighting for years in resource-rich Balochistan, complaining the southwestern province's gas and mineral wealth is unfairly exploited by Pakistan's richer, more powerful provinces.

Later, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a designated terror group, claimed responsibility for the attack. Spokesmen for the group were not available for comment.

The attack came more than a week after one person was killed and eight injured in a grenade attack outside a government welfare office in Karachi.

The assailants launched a grenade attack at the main gate to the building and opened fire but police say they failed to make it to the trading floor.

President Dr. Arif Alvi has condemned the terrorist attack on the building of Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi on Monday. Police seized AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, and other explosives.

Inside the stock exchange, broker Yaqub Memon says he and others are huddled inside their offices.

Hong Kong police ban major security law protest
Alan Leong, chairman of Hong Kong's pro-democracy Civic Party, wrote that he agreed with Bütikofer's statement. Recently joining the chorus of worldwide critics was Reinhard Bütikofer, a member of the European Parliament.

As per Sindh Rangers, all terrorists have been killed, whereas the clearance operation in the PSX building is underway.

Responding to a question, Bukhari denied the suggestion that the attack represented an intelligence failure, adding that security forces' response was "in place" and the militants "could not achieve any of their motives".

Hours after gunmen attacked the Pakistani stock exchange in Karachi, Mr Qureshi alleged that the clues of the strike are leading towards sleeper cells activated by India.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

"Attack on PSX was meant to give the impression that Pakistan is not safe for foreign investment", he said.

Sindh chief minister called for an immediate inquiry report into the attack while appreciating the timely action taken by the police and rangers to thwart off the attack.
