Small Business Relief Program Gets a Surprise Extension

There was still $128 billion in PPP funds available as of June 20.

The program was created to offer small business loans to bridge the shutdowns and help businesses keep employees in their jobs - and in turn, the loans taken out would be forgiven, essentially shifting into a grant.

Applications are slated to close at midnight for a massive small business federal aid program meant to throw a lifeline to mom and pop shops that have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic recession.

The disclosures - which could come right before the three-day Fourth of July weekend - will include the names of recipients who received loans worth more than $150,000, as well as addresses, NAICS codes, zip codes, business type, demographic data, nonprofit information and number of jobs supported.

More than $130 billion in allocated funds remained unused at the time of the program's closure Tuesday night. While there had been discussions about moving the deadline, there were no substantive moves towards agreement on one until shortly before it actually reached the floor.

PPP loan recipients may be able to apply for additional aid under a newly proposed bill.

The Dunedin based MP also admitted to a second breach , after driving to a mountain biking track during lockdown. Critics said it was "like kicking a puppy" and accused Mr Clark of throwing Mr Bloomfield "under a bus".

"The resources are there, the need is there, we just need to change the date", Sen.

The House passage completes a whirlwind several days for a program that was all but certain to shutter until bipartisan negotiations were sparked in the US Senate on Tuesday afternoon.

The program was so critical at its inception that a first round of funding dried up in fewer than two weeks and had to be replenished.

Sponsors of the program, including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Senate Small Business Committee Chairman Marco Rubio, R-Fla., want to re-purpose the money in a way that's more targeted for businesses suffering during the upswing in cases.
