Qualcomm's Quick Charge 5 Can Charge Your Phone in 15 Minutes

Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 Fast Charging Tech Launched Can Fully Charge a Phone in 15 Minutes

The chipmaker claims it is the world's first commercially viable fast charging platform to support more than 100W charging on a smartphone. It also supports 2S battery packs and is optimised for both USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) and USB Type-C technologies. "We are proud to expand our technology portfolio and make accessible 100W+ charging a commercial reality".

The new Qualcomm's Quick Charge 5 hardware - announced today - allows for 100W+ charging in the same footprint as the previous QC4 equipment.

Quick Charge 5 is 70 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 4 and offers 10 times the power delivery of Quick Charge 1, Qualcomm said in its press release.

Quick Charge 5 uses Dual Charge technology, similar to what a number of other manufacturers use for their high-power fast charging technology.

With support for wired charging speeds of over 100W, it's nearly four times as powerful as the current industry standard Quick Charge 4, which has a maximum capacity of 27W.

NBA Player Went to Strip Club ... for the Food
However, the re-quarantining time could be extended up to 10 days if recommended by the league's infectious disease specialists. ESPN notes that the photo shows Williams wearing an National Basketball Association mask as he held a drink at the club.

Anxious about battery life? Quick Charge 5 will not only use Qualcomm Battery Saver but also use the new Qualcomm Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities to extend battery life.

Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be bringing Quick Charge 5 tech on its devices by Q3 2020. Some of the details it can identify include voltage behavior, current behavior, and voltage ranges. Qualcomm says they also used USB-input overvoltage protection at 25V and external power controls beyond 30V.

Quick Charge 5 relies on two new power management integrated circuits-SMB 1396 and SMB1398.

Another major concern is the long term implications of exposing a phone battery to such high levels of power, but that has also been addressed. Quick Charge 5 is backward compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0+, and existing devices on the market.

Quick Charge 5 is now supported by the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus Mobile Platforms as well as future premium and top-tier mobile platforms. Eventually, the company plans to incorporate the standard into its Snapdragon 600- and 700-series processors, though it has yet to announce a timeline for those chips.
