Trump defend Houston doctor tok say di drug work for coronavirus treatment

U.S. President Donald Trump gives a thumbs up as he walks toward Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House

Hydroxychloroquine is a malaria drug, which Trump has previously said showed promise for treating COVID-19, but scientific studies have shown it is ineffective in treating the coronavirus and could cause fatal heart arrhythmia. "I reached out to her and said, 'Hey, I'm working on this effort and I'd like to talk to doctors, ' and we started emailing and talking, and as things have developed and she watched the virus, things have evolved", Martin said.

Per CNN's account, the conservative website Breitbart News on Monday live-streamed video of an event featuring a group called "America's Frontline Doctors", held on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington. Immanuel is known for her unorthodox views on the merits of masks and hydroxychloroquine, and became something of an internet sensation, particularly after her unusual ideas about alien DNA became public.

The video also played down the importance of using masks. According to her, these are "fake science" backed by "fake pharma companies".

The video quickly went viral on Facebook, with more than 14 million views. Trump even told reporters in May he took the drug as a preventative measure.

Sydney venues shut over COVID, 14 cases
The prestigious member-only club, which is the home of the Sydney-Hobart annual sailing race, has now closed for deep cleaning. It comes after a patron who attended while infectious tested positive to COVID-19.

"We have just met with Vice President Mike Pence to request the administration's assistance in empowering doctors to prescribe hydroxychloroquine without political obstruction", Simone Gold, the group's leader, tweeted. However, Facebook-owned data-analytics firm Crowdtangle said it has already been shared for about 600,000 times before it was removed from the platform.

A Facebook spokesperson told CNN that the video was removed for sharing fake information related to coronavirus and claims connected "to myths debunked by the World Health Organization". The President himself retweeted the video on Monday night before Twitter deleted it. Multiple versions of the video were uploaded to YouTube, and links were shared through Twitter.

Trump's spokesperson, Andrew Surabian, flagged Twitter's notification to the President's eldest son informing him that he had violated its policy on "spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19". Twitter took a similar action against Kelli Ward, the Arizona Republican Party chairwoman, who also tweeted the video.

Meanwhile, Dr. Immanuel dared CNN and Dr. Anthony Fauci to take urine tests to prove they are not taking hydroxychloroquine.
