Police dogs were led into the underground cellar, according to The Telegraph.

While in Hannover, Brueckner lived in a high-rise apartment block in Linden.

Local authorities have yet to comment on the alleged discovery, however.

Madeleine was three years old when she went missing while on holiday with her family in Portugal in 2007. Brueckner split his time between Germany and Portugal from 2013 to 2015. They later broke up but he continued running the business.

Bruckner, 43, has a list of criminal convictions that includes child sexual abuse, theft and drug dealing, and was convicted in December for the 2005 rape of a US tourist.

German detectives have not said if they are looking for Madeleine's remains or simply evidence against Brueckner.

German police are searching an area in Hannover in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Kossack told the Daily Mail: "I remembered his face from the pictures in the news". What I can tell you is that he was there with two dogs. I told them he had been working on a Volkswagen Camper here and he would lift the roof up and then make it smaller again.

Cops were tipped off about his use of the Hanover allotment by another tenant who saw a German crime show last month featuring Madeleine's 2007 disappearance.

'He never did any gardening. He did not plant anything or try to grow anything.

Jorge De La Fuente, attorney for LUPE, said it was prepared to file lawsuits if USCIS denied new applications. Some 700,000 people in America have benefited from the Daca programme, majority of Latin American origin.

'At the time there was a building on the garden. It had a cellar and underneath there would be foundations.

He said the buildings on Brueckner's plot of land were demolished in 2008.

"At first he apologised but became increasingly aggressive", Mr Kossack said.

"He said he was a vehicle mechanic".

The site is 40 miles from Braunschweig where their prime suspect, Christian Brückner, was last registered as living.

German police claim they have evidence linking him to the case.

Through his lawyer Brueckner, now imprisoned in Germany for drugs offences, has denied any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance or death. He did not serve a prison sentence. She was just three years old at the time.

He has convictions for "sexual contact with girls" as well as rape.

Police remove heavy machinery from the allotment, which was searched for two days in relation to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Officers carted away slabs of rubble from the site linked to Christian Brueckner, 43, a convicted rapist believed to have abducted the British toddler in Portugal.
