Google One will now back up your Android phone for free

Google Assistant could replace Bixby on Samsung smartphones

To bring this peace of mind to more people, we're making some Google One features-phone backup and a new storage manager tool-free for Google users wherever Google One is available. It is also simpler to back up to the iCloud because if and when you do upgrade to a new iPhone, restoring all the data from the iCloud storage is seamless. They're loaded with Samsung services - including Bixby and the Galaxy App Store - although Google's services and the Google Play Store are still available on Samsung's phones. Android users need to install the Google One application on their device to make use of it. A Google One subscription is not required anymore to use the feature.

The second feature is a storage cleaner that lets you "easily manage and clean up your files across Drive, Gmail, and Photos", Google said today.

The data is stored in the cloud and users may select what they want the app to back up.

United Kingdom rejects Spain PM's quarantine criticism
It is a figure which has more than tripled in two weeks, prompting Spain's autonomous regions to step up security measures. The Socialist prime minister said the British government had given Spain no heads up about the quarantine move.

The storage manager provides "an easy way to see how" the storage is being used, and an option to free up space.

Google says that the new storage manager and the free phone backups features will roll out for Android users via Google Play in the coming days. As a free Google One user, you would be backing up to your free 15GB of storage that comes with your Google Account. Google did not mention when it will become available, but it is likely that the functionality is being rolled out gradually. According to Bloomberg and Reuters, the tech giants are discussing a new global revenue-sharing deal that would give Google more control over Samsung's devices.

"Samsung remains committed to our own ecosystem and services", whilst "At the same time, Samsung closely works with Google and other partners to offer the best mobile experiences for our users."
