Indian, Chinese troops complete disengagement at most locations of border, claims Beijing

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin speaks during a daily briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing on Friday

The MEA statement comes even as Chinese side on July 29 claimed that "front-line border forces of the two countries have disengaged in most locations, and the current situation has continuously improved with eased tensions".

The Chinese ambassador said China was not a strategic threat to India and that the "general structure that we can't live without each other remains unchanged". On June 15, both sides engaged in a violent face-off and 20 Indian Army personnel were killed.

A violent altercation between the armies of the two countries on 15 June was the culmination of almost two months of Chinese troop movement closer to the de facto border, Line of Actual Control (LAC) near the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. Now, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, it is also dramatically increasing its military presence along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as its Chinese border is formally known.

"At present the situation in this region tends toward de-escalation, and the disengagement between the border troops of the two countries is gradually carried forward", he said at an online media briefing.

Srivastava said there had been some progress made towards disengagement but the process had not been completed.

In their diplomatic talks on July 24, the two sides agreed that an early and complete disengagement of the troops along the LAC in accordance with bilateral agreement and protocols was essential for overall development of bilateral relations. Following Modi's visit to the border personally to salute the soldiers injured in the clash, the Chinese Foreign Ministry claimed that both Indian and Chinese troops had pulled back away from the Galwan Valley, the Ladakh area where the two sides clashed. Who does Galwan Valley belong to?

Both sides had established formats for mutually engaging each other to resolve differences, Sun said adding that India and China should take advantage of these mechanisms and find a way to reduce suspicions and build trust.

Meanwhile, anti-China sentiment has soared in India since the fight, which sparked street protests and calls for Chinese products to be banned in the nation of 1.3 billion people.

"It is common knowledge that a generational gap in fighter jets represents a huge difference that can not be made up by tactics and numbers in combat, military observers said".
