Broadband Broadband growth remained strong at Comcast, as the operator raked in another 340,000 residential data customers (but lost 17,000 business broadband subs), marking the cable operator's best Q2 result in the category in 13 years and blowing away Wall Street expectations of about 200,000 broadband adds.

The company reported Thursday that its NBCUniversal TV, film and theme park divisions, as well as its Sky unit in Europe, all suffered steep drops in revenue in the April-June quarter.

High-speed internet customers grew at a faster-than-expected rate, reaching a second quarter record in cable with more than 217,000 net customer relationship adds. Total revenues for NBCUniversal in the second quarter declined 25.4% to $6.1 billion.

Comcast Corp.'s strength in business services, sought-after high-speed internet, and wireless carried the cable giant's balance sheet during an otherwise tumultuous fiscal period brought on by the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic. United Kingdom broadcaster Sky saw a 41.2% decline in advertising revenues, and sports' pause also translated in a loss of about 214,000 subscribers.

Roberts credited Bill Stemper, Comcast's president of Comcast Business, and his team for building a "robust small business customer base" and said that Comcast is well-positioned to pick up more customers in this segment as more businesses bounce back from the pandemic.

NBCUniversal's television group is adopting a new structure, under which it will "shift resources from linear to streaming", NBCU CEO Jeff Shell said on Comcast's second-quarter 2020 call.

The cable and home internet division's revenue was roughly unchanged at $14.43 billion. Comcast isn't counting 600,000 customers who are on a free promotion for low-income people or who have halted payments because of financial difficulties stemming from the pandemic and its economic fallout. Comcast in 2018 launched its ActiveCore SDN platform, with SD-WAN as its inaugural offering. Peacock is free for Comcast customers and has been available to them since April, but opened to the general public, with a much-promoted free tier, on July 15.

Indian, Chinese troops complete disengagement at most locations of border, claims Beijing
Srivastava said there had been some progress made towards disengagement but the process had not been completed. On June 15, both sides engaged in a violent face-off and 20 Indian Army personnel were killed.

Comcast in Q1 opened its Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots in business and outdoor locations across the country for free, regardless of whether or not users are Comcast subscribers, and the company said on Thursday it would keep these hotspots up and running until the end of the year.

NBCUniversal was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. A £1.84 billion of revenue from Broadcast television was 1.6% lower than previous year.

The company also said that it gained 10 million sign-ups for its new Peacock streaming service, which launched this month, though it's not clear how many of those are Premium, and how many were Comcast subscribers personally. Theme parks were down 94% to $87 million.

The segment has been hurt during the pandemic as some business customers paused service and others were forced out of business.

In second-quarter earnings released Thursday morning, Comcast posted revenue of $23.72 billion and 69 cents adjusted earnings per share, both of which beat analyst estimates, per CNBC.

Comcast tops analysts' estimates for earnings and revenue in the fiscal second quarter.
