Phillies cancel activities after positive coronavirus tests

Absalon

The Phillies-Yankees games through Thursday were postponed "out of an abundance of caution", Major League Baseball said, although no Phillies players have tested positive. The Phillies canceled all baseball activities because two people - a coach and home clubhouse staff member - had tested positive.

However, Mayor Carlos Gimenez of Miami-Dade County, said Tuesday that the Marlins should follow 14-day quarantine protocols before returning home, which would create another problem - can the Marlins plan home games as planned August 4-Aug. The Marlins' personnel who tested positive remain in isolation and are receiving care. Girardi believes that the most important thing right now is the safety of everyone involved, even if it ultimately means that the Phillies and Marlins, among others, don't play the full 60-game slate in 2020.

"A team losing a number of players that rendered it completely non-competitive would be an issue that we would have to address and have to think about making a change", he said. Though MLB has planned for the team to return to competition on the diamond within the next week, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez has recommended that players and staff members for the Marlins quarantine for a full two weeks prior to resuming their season.

The Phillies were on hold until at least Saturday, as they underwent daily testing out of concern that sharing the field and the stadium with the Marlins might have spread the virus from one team to the other.

Marlins outfielder Harold Ramirez, one of 17 Marlins players who has tested positive for COVID-19, told Telemundo that he had symptoms earlier this week but has improved.

Province reveals plan for full return to school in September
Southfield Public Schools will start the 2020-21 school year online due to COVID-19, the district announced on Tuesday. At a meeting last night, the school board members voted to not push back classes.

"Obviously, we don't want any player to get exposed".

Ramirez said he started feeling symptoms three days after catcher Jorge Alfaro tested positive for COVID-19 on July 24. "Well, that's great for Rhys, but if the person who has it is not wearing a mask, Rhys' likelihood of getting it is still higher than if they both had masks". Three games have now been postponed due to the outbreak in the Marlins' locker room. "I've heard a dozen of them have gotten infected".

"Thank God I feel a little better", he said.

"I don't think its necessarily fair in this situation where it's no fault of their own they've lost 15 players and then you have to be like "Hey, go get them" to a bunch of non-roster veterans and a bunch of guys who haven't played above Double-A", the first scout said. It would be another if they miss a week's worth of games.
