President Donald Trump said Wednesday he did not speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin about intelligence claiming Russia was offering bounties to the Taliban for American soldiers killed in Afghanistan.
POTUS has faced a harsh wave of criticism from his opponents over his lack of a reaction to unconfirmed reports in the media about alleged bounties that the Kremlin purportedly paid to the Taliban for the killing of American troops in Afghanistan.
Trump noted the intelligence about Russian bounties, first revealed by the New York Times, was disputed by American intelligence agencies, and said he did not bring it up with Putin.
Trump talked by phone with Putin as recently as last Thursday.
Trump has made clear that he did not believe the bounty report, but that if it were true, he would respond to Russian Federation.
National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien has said Trump was not verbally briefed on the intelligence because his CIA briefer concluded the reports were uncorroborated.
Trump added during Wednesday's gaggle that Russian Federation "lost a fortune and a lot of people" during the Soviet Union's incursion into Afghanistan.
Coronavirus: Apple Closes More Stores In US
Apple has now closed two more stores in Florida, St Johns Town Center in Jacksonville, and University Town Center in Sarasota. Apple is set to reclose 16 more stores in the US following a rise in new COVID-19 infections in several states.
Trump is also dismissing reports that Russian Federation is arming the Taliban, which has fought USA -led forces in Afghanistan to a standstill and is now negotiating for their withdrawal.
Mary Trump said she can only speculate about what the president is trying to gain something from Putin.
"You write about Donald Trump's sort of attachment to and being drawn to people that are like, I guess like his father", said Reid before reading another excerpt of the book.
There is no clear assessment within the US intelligence community whether Russian Federation paid bounties to the Taliban.
"The safety of USA forces is the President's top priority in Afghanistan", she tweeted.
The president went on to explain his intelligence team didn't believe the information was real, adding that if it was true then he would have done something about it.
Former Vice President Joe Biden called Trump's handling of the intelligence a "dereliction of duty".
