COVID Alert app now available in Ontario

A new app created to alert users if they have come into contact with someone who has tested for COVID-19 is now available and the provincial government says the more people who use the app the more effective it will be.

In addition, while the Android version requires uses to turn on their location settings, officials maintain the app will not know a user's location, name, address, when they were near someone or if they are now near someone who was previously diagnosed.

Right now, the app is connected to the Ontario health system, "but we know other provinces will be joining in soon, so people across the country can and should download it today", Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday.

"It doesn't collect your name, your address, your geolocation, or any other personal information", Trudeau said, adding he downloaded the app Friday morning. "It was developed in consultation with the privacy commissioners of Ontario and Canada to ensure the highest level of privacy". Users who have tested positive can choose make that known on the app. The more people who download the app, the more effective it will be in stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Ontarians who receive an exposure alert can then get tested and take action to help keep themselves, their families, and their friends from spreading COVID-19 throughout the community.

Germany suspends extradition agreement with Hong Kong
Many critics pushed back on the idea with arguments similar to those McEnany used to criticize Hong Kong's delay. The president later sidestepped a question about whether he supported Hong Kong's postponement.

Google says it has also launched more technical guidance on how the ‌Exposure Notification‌ API works over the course of the last few weeks, and is providing more information on its Exposure Notifications website.

The notification users will receive if they may have come into contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case lets them know that they are at risk of being infected and prompts them to contact their local public health agency to determine next steps.

"This is again cause for modernizing our laws so that they effectively protect Canadian citizens", he said.

Canadians can download the app to their mobile phones, which will use bluetooth technology to exchange signals with nearby phones.

"I think they did a really good job".
