Cardinals-Cubs series postponed after additional positive COVID-19 tests

Cardinals game postponed after another player tests positive

Of the 13 Cardinals personnel previously known to have recorded positive tests since the start of the season, seven are players and six are members of the team's staff. However, if the team isn't cleared to workout together or travel by Wednesday, those games could be in jeopardy as well.

With the Cubs series delayed, the Cardinals have now had 10 consecutive games postponed due to the outbreak.

Major League Baseball had announced the postponement of Friday's contest to allow for additional testing and to complete the "contact tracing process" after one player tested positive.

If the Cardinals lose another series or another full week, there's no conceivable way they will play 60 games. Eight players in total have tested positive, including star catcher Yadier Molina.

Nine days after their most recent game and seven after the public revelation of a COVID-19 outbreak which paused their season, the St. Louis Cardinals were hoping to get back on the field against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are scheduled to visit St. Louis for three games, starting Monday. The Marlins missed more than a week before resuming play on Tuesday. The league said there were 13,043 samples taken last week with 13 positive results for a 0.1% positive rate. Of those 71 positive results, 49 are players and 22 are staff. Series against the Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers were postponed. Milwaukee will host doubleheaders September 18 and 20 and will serve as the home team in the opener of a twinbill in St. Louis on September 25.

The next possible return date could be August 13 in Detroit. St. Louis had been scheduled to play the Chicago White Sox at the Field of Dreams in Iowa on August 13.

The team has not played since July 29.
