MAC Becomes First FBS Conference to Cancel Fall Sports

Big Sky Conference cancels fall sports season

The NAIA football championships have been moved to the spring and the top teams in the Frontier Conference plan to participate in the playoffs at that time, Paulson said.

The league's presidents council announced Friday that it will not conduct conference play this fall, instead moving to an eight-game spring schedule, with the expectation that the season will culminate with a spring Football Championship Subdivision playoff.

A person with knowledge of the decision told the Associated Press the university presidents voted to not play in the fall and consider a spring season.

Multiple sources are also reporting the Pioneer League is also canceling or suspending the fall football season.

The Portland State Vikings play in the Big Sky, traditionally one of the strongest FCS conferences with Montana, Eastern Washington and Montana State. In non-football sports, FBS schools compete as part of the broader Division I of the NCAA.

Their celebrations were shortlived as Jesse Lingard equalised on the counter attack for United three minutes later. The Belgian scored the opener in the 33rd minute, following a lovely ball over the top from Alessandro Bastoni.

Sports will not be played at the University at Buffalo this fall. The Power Five went first and then the so-called Group of Five, with the American Athletic, Sun Belt, Mountain West and Conference USA all completing schedule models this week. Eastern has home non-conference games scheduled on September 12 versus Western Illinois and September 19 against Northern Arizona, and will be working with those schools to re-schedule as a result of the Big Sky's decision. Northern Illinois is located in a state that has nearly 200,000 cases.

The MAC sponsors 7 of the 8 fall sports in Division I of the NCAA: men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's field hockey, football, and women's volleyball.

NCAA Division II and Division III football elected to not pursue a fall postseason. 5 home game against Long Island after its parent conference, the Northeast Conference postponed fall activities, and a September 12 road game at Utah following the PAC-12's decision to cancel non-conference games.

The Missouri Valley is home to FCS perennial power North Dakota State, which now holds an FCS-record 37-game winning streak and eight FCS championships overall, including the last three consecutively.

Remember, there are no games against MAC schools this year anymore, so there's still a chance this thing gets off the ground. The conference is located in Zone C of the NCAA zone diving qualifying system; as the only zone that didn't complete qualifying, the CSCAA awarded all remaining competitors in that zone All-America awards.
