U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit California on Monday to be briefed about its devastating wildfires, while Democratic rival Joe Biden plans a speech on the matter from DE, bringing climate change to the forefront of the presidential campaign.

At least 35 people have died in California, Oregon and Washington, The Associated Press reported.

Earlier, Democratic challenger Joe Biden branded Mr Trump a "climate arsonist" whose policies are contributing to evermore powerful natural disasters.

The Republican president, who trails Biden in national polls ahead of the November 3 election, met with firefighters and officials in California after Democrats blasted the president for remaining mostly silent about the largest wildfires in state history.

Trump has said that western governors bear some of the blame for intense fire seasons in recent years, accusing them of poor forest management. "They have very explosive trees, but they don't have problems like this".

Brown called the perilous fires a "once-in-a-generation event", and the director of the Office of Emergency Management, Andrew Phelps, said authorities were bracing for the possibility of "mass fatality" incidents.

"When you get into climate change, well is India going to change its ways? And Russia? Is Russia going to change its ways?" he said after landing in McLellan Park, California.

In a statement released Saturday, Biden expressed his support for those suffering from the effects of the fires, as well as the firefighters and first responders on the front lines of the emergency, while also blasting Trump for "deny [ing]. reality" on climate change's role in the ongoing crisis.

"If we have four more years of Trump's climate denial, how many more suburbs will burn from wildfires?" "How many suburban neighborhoods will have been flooded out?" Trump has struck a "law-and-order" theme during a wave of anti-racism protests.

Newsom acknowledged that "we have not done justice on our forest management", though he pointed out that more than half of the land in California is under federal, not state control. "And this is a wake-up call for all of us that we have got to do everything in our power to tackle climate change".

The three Democratic leaders of California, Oregon and Washing blamed the states' dire conditions on climate change.

Wade Crowfoot, the head of the California Natural Resources Agency, responded: "I wish science agreed with you".

When one of Newsom's top aides said that science disagreed, Trump shot back: "I don't think science knows".

Trump's administration has waged a series of legal battles with Democratic-run California, the most-populous US state, on a variety of issues including immigration and environmental policy.

Several wildfires are burning across the state.

After four days of brutally hot, windy conditions in OR, the weekend brought calmer winds blowing inland from the Pacific Ocean, and cooler, moister weather that helped crews make headway against blazes that burned unchecked last week.

Community donation centres popped up around Jackson County over the weekend, including one in the parking lot of Home Depot in Phoenix, where farmers brought a pick-up truck bed full of watermelons and people brought water and other supplies. Those residents faced the added challenge of gaining food and shelter during a pandemic.

"The only moisture in eastern Washington was the tears of people who have lost their homes and mingling with the ashes".

There's concern that two of the biggest blazes threatening cities and towns near Portland - the Beachie Creek and Riverside fires - will combine in the coming days.

Police in Medford, Oregon, debunked a false post using the police department's logo and name suggesting that five members of the Proud Boys, a far-right group, had been arrested for arson.
