Last week, the Oxford vaccine candidate from Astra Zeneca halted human trials when a volunteer fell ill in the United Kingdom, after which the Serum Institute of India also stopped trials - citing a show-cause notice issued form the Drug Controller of India.

"Since the first wave of Covid-19 appeared in Wuhan, China has already survived the impact of Covid-19 several times", Gao Fu, director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said at a vaccine summit in the city of Shenzhen on Saturday.

A committee of outside experts - with knowledge of which individuals were given vaccine shots, is also reviewing safety data on a weekly basis and are "not notified of any safety concerns to date", Kathrin Jansen, Pfizer's head of vaccine research said during the meet.

Chinese drug giant Sinopharm began the third phase of trials for a Covid-19 vaccine in the UAE in July, with Emirati officials saying the results have been positive.

The comments come after the COVID-19 vaccine trials of rival AstraZeneca Plc were put on hold worldwide last week after a severe side effect was reported in a volunteer in Britain.

It is not known whether the condition was caused by the experimental vaccine. Leading Western vaccine makers pledged earlier this month to uphold scientific study standards and reject any political pressure to rush the process. India is considering emergency authorization for a vaccine, particularly for the elderly and people in high-risk workplaces.

Johnson & Johnson's Belgian Janssen unit began Phase II trials of its COVID-19 vaccine on 190 people in Spain on Monday with those tests due to conclude on September 22.

Speaking to Russian newspaper Izvestia, Murashko explained that more than 300 people have already received the Sputnik V vaccine as part of the three-phase trial, and 14 percent have complained about their health. The person declined to name the countries engaged in talks. The company has planned to expand into Japan and Russian Federation for the early to mid-stage trials.

"That narrative, ironically, may become more convincing when Trump's America First approach denies many countries opportunities to access the US -made vaccines". He said China was unlike other countries seeking a "reservation fee" or advance payment.
