Nintendo 3DS Production Has Come to an End in Japan

The 3DS first launched in Japan on February 26, 2011, followed by launches in Europe and North America on March 25, 2011 and March 27, 2011, respectively.

The statement continues: "We now have no plans to end any existing online services for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems".

As first reported by Japanese Nintendo, the confirmation has appeared on both Nintendo Japanese's website and the Nintendo 3DS UK page, bringing an end to the story of the handheld system that has sold more than 75.87 million units.

Petco Park in San Diego will be a venue throughout for the American League, with Dodger Stadium taking some of the division games. But, in a freakish twist of fate, their oft-roasted, Home Depot-looking $1.2 billion new Globe Life Field home very much will.

All good things come to an end, and the Nintendo 3DS family is no exception to the rule. Whatever is available on store shelves now is all that there will be. It launched with games like Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, and Nintendogs + Cats, and new services like StreetPass and SpotPass, but it didn't quite hit the mark at the start. The biggest feature of the handheld, at the time, was its ability to show stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses. Lastly, the New Nintendo 3DS featuring a more powerful CPU, C-Stick, and additional buttons released in October 2014.

After some initial teething problems, the console found its foothold in the market, and eventually grew to include the Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL. Back in July, the gaming giant shut down the Wii U and 3DS eshops in dozens of regions.

With the discontinuation of the 3DS, Nintendo is now a "one-system" developer.
