‘Epic started a fire, and poured gasoline on it’, says Apple

Apple Fires Back At Epic, Saying Lawsuit Is A Publicity Stunt

In a blog post Epic said that Apple is to blame because it is preventing the company from signing updates, which will cause bugs in the future. Epic has refused to back down, however. Any V-Bucks spent on Llamas on macOS in this period will also be refunded.

Apple likens Epic Games' current predicament, shut out of the App Store, to the company having "started a fire, and poured gasoline on it", and now requesting help from the court to put it out.

The developer is issuing refunds for all players who have purchased Save the World Founder's Pack or Starter Pack and played the game mode on macOS between September 17, 2019 and September 17, 2020. Gamers want to jump directly into a game from their curated catalog within one app just like they do with movies or songs, and not be forced to download over 100 apps to play individual games from the cloud.

'The Batman' filming resumes after COVID-19 shutdown
Robert Pattinson stars in the film, from director Matt Reeves , which had been on hiatus for nearly six months because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Epic violated App Store rules on August 13, when it introduced a direct payment option in Fortnite that attempted an end-run around Apple's in-app purchases system. This is because, thanks to cross-platform improvements, players can pick up on those platforms, such as the PlayStation 4, Windows PC or Xbox One.

While the battle royale version is still playable on macOS and will continue to work, it's already cut off from receiving new updates. Then Apple really puts the boot in.

For those who aren't aware of what's been going on, you can take a look at a detailed synopsis here. The Cupertino giant considers that it carries no blame as Epic Games willfully breached a contract that is respected by millions of developers from all over the world, and attempted to dodge a tax which covers essential features and services provided by the App Store. The next hearing is scheduled for September 28, after which, we can all expect yet another round of Apple and Epic hurling snide remarks and accusations that the other is being a giant doo doo head.
