039;Rafael Nadal is always impressive when you are in front of him', says Spaniard ace

Novak Djokovic behaved better on Wednesday in his first match since being defaulted from the US Open. Of course, it was a honest mistake by the umpire that was corrected immediately.

Earlier in the day Novak Djokovic needed three sets to defeat Domink Koepfer to reach the semi-finals for the Roland Garros warm-up event.

The Spaniard, ranked at number two in the world, was nearly immediately on the back foot, and slumped to a 6-2 first set loss.

The top-ranked Djokovic was thrown out of the U.S. Open for unintentionally hitting a line judge in the throat with a ball in a fit of anger.

Eighth seed Diego Schwartzman was given a run for his money by Poland's Hubert Hurkacz, but the Argentinian came from behind to prevail 3-6 6-2 6-4.

Djokovic defeated his compatriot Philip Krajinovic 7-6 (7), 6-3, while Nadal also beat Serbian player Dusan Lajovic 6-1,6-3 to advance to the last eight.

Italian wildcard Jannik Sinner pulled off a stunning upset in the second round when he beat third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-1, 6-7 (9-11), 6-2 to take revenge on the Greek who beat him in straight sets at the same stage a year ago.

Ruud said: "This is my first time in the semi-finals, and today was even my first time in the quarter-finals".

Halep, who is actually on an 11-0 run overall stretching back to February, recovered an early break in the opening set and then overpowered her 29th-ranked opponent the rest of the way.

"I really want to win this tournament", added Halep, who will be playing her fifth semifinal in Rome. "(It was) another great evening for me against another good opponent.

"If I play my best game, and if I feel great physically on court, I have a big chance to win the match".

Rome resident Matteo Berrettini defeated Argentina Federico Coria 7-5, 6-1; and wild-card entry Stefano Travaglia eliminated US Open quarter-finalist Borna Coric 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 in a solid day for the host nation. "But I can't ask for more", Nadal said.

She will play Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, the ninth seed, for a place in the semi-finals after the Spaniard ousted US Open finalist Victoria Arazenka.

Bulgaria has also reached the quarterfinals.

"I have just been motivated and pumped up for the clay to start again, and it's a different time than what it usually is, but it's still the same attractive place, same lovely venue and handsome city".
