COVID-19: This one blood group is less vulnerable to coronavirus

Your Blood Type May Predict Your Risk For Severe COVID-19

When researchers parsed through data from the Danish health registry of more than 473,000 people tested for COVID-19 and compared it to a control group of over 2.2. million people from the general populace, they found that among COVID-positive patients, there were fewer with blood type O and more with blood types A, B and AB. All of this to conclude that in those infected, the majority had blood types A, B and AB.

The study also found that those with type A or AB blood had a median stay in the intensive care unit of 13.5 days, compared to 9 days for those with type O or B, the study found.

Researchers of this study found that Covid-19 patients with blood groups A and AB had an increased risk of severe clinical outcomes, compared to patients with blood groups O or B.

New research suggests that people with O blood type are less likely to contract the novel coronavirus. No associations were found between non-O blood groups and comorbidities that might explain infection rate differences. There is no evidence to the contrary: none of the blood groups is a sentence for the patient.

The first of the two studies saw scientists look at health registry data from more than 473,000 people in Denmark who tested for Covid-19 and compared it to a control group of more than 2.2 million people from the general population, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total Danish population. These data are of particular importance as we continue to go through the pandemic.

Southgate backs Maguire to bounce back after latest setback
To go down to 10 men is costly for the team, but we fully back him, we fully support him. He later added: "He's been getting all sorts from some people who should know better".

"We demonstrate that blood group O is significantly associated with reduced susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection", said the study published Wednesday on Blood Advances, a peer-reviewed medical journal of the American Society of Hematology. Health officials don't think at this point blood type supersedes other COVID risk factors. There again, it was observed that of all blood group types, blood type O (positive or negative) was the most "protected" ones of all.

The researchers noted that patients with these blood types (A and AB) were more likely to be put on mechanical ventilation, indicating that they had higher rates of lung injury from the virus - and dialysis from kidney failure.
