On Thursday, France announced that more than 30,000 cases of "Covid-19" were recorded in one day, which is the highest number recorded for people with Coronavirus in Europe since the outbreak of the epidemic.

President Emmanuel President Macron's office says France will restore a state of health emergency that expired three months ago.

While the curfew has broad public support - a Harris Interactive poll after Macron's announcement found 70 percent approval - officials in several cities anxious about the heavy social and economic costs of a measure set to last at least a month. France 24 met with the Parisians.

Anyone found to be outdoors during the curfew without special authorisation would face a fine of 135 euros ($159), Macron said.

"We won't be leaving the restaurant after 9pm", Macron said.

IKEA to 'buy back' and resell old furniture
This fall, IKEA will also open its first store that will sell only refurbished furniture and sustainably produced products . Items will then be resold as second-hand in the As-Is Area of stores (previously known as Bargain Corner).

Within curfew areas public transport will continue to run as normal to allow people to go to and from work.

The French president added that the government's goal was to reduce the current rate of 20,000 new COVID-19 cases per day to 3,000 in order to reduce the burden on intensive care units as the government sought to prolong the state of health emergency.

The announcement on Wednesday comes as France confirmed almost 27,000 new coronavirus cases four days ago, by far exceeding the daily tally reported in the spring.

He said reintroducing a full lockdown would be "disproportionate" while insisting that France "has not lost control" of the situation.
