Sam Querrey flees Russian Federation with family after positive COVID-19 test

Querrey accused of quarantine breach after positive COVID-19 test in Russia

In a statement forwarded to all players the ATP said that they were "aware of an incident regarding a player's serious breach of protocols".

Querrey's positive test meant that had to pull out of his first-round match against Denis Shapovalov, and the situation was further complicated when his wife Abby and eight-month-old son Ford - who were travelling with him - also tested positive. However, prior to the start of the ATP 500 tournament, Querrey tested positive for COVID-19 - as did Abby and Ford.

According to journalist Ben Rothenberg, Querrey and his family were instructed to quarantine for 14 days in the Four Seasons hotel. But then a wrench was thrown into the works. If the family displayed symptoms - they were reportedly experiencing what they believed to be mild symptoms - they would face a forced hospitalization.

"The Querreys, who suffered from mild symptoms, feared that some or all of them would be hospitalized in Russian Federation, especially given the fact that they were traveling with their eight month old son, from whom they may not want to be separated in a hospital unusual country".

The statement goes on to say that the tournament organised a doctor and paediatrician to visit the family but they were unable to gain entry to the Querreys' room on two occasions. On the day of arrival, October 7, Sam Querrey and his wife passed the test.

"Sam Querrey, as the hotel's security cameras identified, left the hotel together with his family at 5:45 am on October 13 without informing the reception service".

COVID-19 forces AAC to reschedule Cincinnati-Tulsa game
It is the major college fifth game that had been slated to be played this week to be rescheduled, and the fourth since Sunday. The range of matches between FBS groups to be cancelled and postponed because August 26 is now 31.

Rothenberg reported that the Querreys are in an Air BnB in an unknown country and do not intend to disclose their whereabouts. The 33-year-old told an ATP representative that he was leaving Russian Federation in a private jet, and the tournament management was then also informed.

After testing positive, the tennis player and his family were asked to isolate together in a hotel room.

The ATP launched an announcement this morning saying it was conscious of a participant's "critical breach of protocol" and is "taking this matter extraordinarily significantly and an investigation is underway". If the infringement is extreme sufficient, it could fall beneath the "Main Offense of Conduct Opposite to the Integrity of the Recreation" part.

Under ATP rules, if they find his protocol breach to have been a major offence and damaging to the future of the Tour, he could be fined up to $100,000 (USD) and/or suspended from the ATP for a period of up to three years. The Guardian tennis writer Tumaini Carayol wrote on Twitter.

Unsurprisingly, the tennis world was shocked by the revelations involving Querrey.

Rospotrebnadzor then recommended the Querreys move from the hotel to a private apartment "so that the family would not feel inconvenience and would not pose a threat of infection".
