U.S. quietly ends probe of Obama-era 'unmasking' of Trump allies

Ouch! Trump Won't Say If He'll Keep Barr If He Gets Reelected: 'I'm Not Happy'

An investigation into whether Obama-era officials improperly "unmasked" former national security adviser Michael Flynn's name in USA intelligence reports found no substantive wrongdoing, The Washington Post reported.

Barr and Tim Garrison, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, met with local law enforcement leadership after riding through north St. Louis, which Garrison described in a tweet as "the most risky part of one of the most unsafe cities in America".

The president failed to throw his support behind Mr Barr after the Justice Department found no wrong doing in Mr Trump's much-hyped "unmasking" investigation.

President Donald Trump has pushed Durham and Attorney General William Barr to find wrongdoing.

The investigation was announced soon after Senate Republicans released a list of officials who had asked for the name of an individual who turned out to be President Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment.

Bash resigned from the Justice Department last week, and according to The Post, no criminal charges have been brought as a result of the "unmasking" investigation, and there will be no public report.

One dead as part of building collapses at Western Australia university
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the collapse happened while a glass roof was being installed. Police said the construction had been going on for months and they were unaware of any issues with the worksite.

But Trump and his allies have accused Obama administration officials of illegally unmasking Flynn's name in intelligence reports in 2016 and 2017 monitoring the communications of Sergey Kislyak, then Russia's ambassador to the US.

Bash's findings, the Post noted, concluded that no wrongdoing occured.

Before Bash's appointment, Kupec had said that a different federal prosecutor, John Durham in CT, also had been looking at unmasking as part of his broader investigation into the FBI's 2016 probe of whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian Federation to influence the election.

It was not immediately clear why the department was holding back Bash's findings. Durham's review has not finished.

Brennan told NBC News that he was not interviewed by the prosecutor, U.S. Attorney John Bash of the Western District of Texas, or anyone else related to the investigation.

The end of Bash's inquiry means it is unlikely that Trump will be able to point to politically motivated and wrongfully initiated investigations into his 2016 campaign ahead of Election Day.

He also lashed out at Barr during interviews with Fox News, saying Barr would go down in history "as a very sad, sad situation" if he did not indict Trump's rival, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
