BMW has confirmed the X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition First Edition variants are coming to SA.

BMW has just introduced First Edition variants of both the X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition with production of each capped at 250 units. The matt body finish accentuates the muscular proportions and the M-specific details give it the unique sporty BMW DNA. The list of "upgrades" here include the model-specific BMW Individual Frozen Dark Silver and BMW Individual Frozen Marina Bay Blue special matte finishes.

There aren't any mechanical changes, meaning the X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition First Edition have the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque. These special paint shades are increasing in number all the time. The wheels (front: 21-inch, rear: 22-inch) are fitted with mixed-size tyres.

2021 BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition First Edition models confirmed locally

Numerous exterior trims have been finished in carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). Like the M Carbon exterior mirror caps for the two special-edition models, the M Carbon rear spoiler for the new BMW X6 M Competition has an understated feeling of the race track. Rounding off the changes on the outside are the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) accents complemented by an M-branded carbon engine cover. The headliner is finished in Midnight Blue Alcantara. The eye-catching contrast stitching also bring distinctive flourishes to the door panel trim and instrument panel.

Inside the X5 M and X6 M Competition models optioned with the First Edition package get BMW Individual Merino full leather upholstery in an exclusive combination of Silverstone grey and Midnight Blue to match the exterior paint options.

All cars get silver-covered First Edition lettering applied inside, and this applied to a carbon-fibre strip before a clear coat seal is used to finish it. The company doesn't specify how much these two vehicles cost, but it's safe to say you'll be paying considerably more than the X5 M's starting price of $105,100 and the X6 M's $108,600. If these interior trim strips are specified, the model badge on the cover for the cup holders has the same design.
