The men's basketball coach at Penn State University, Pat Chambers, has resigned following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct.

The now-former head coach came under fire this year for his comments to former Penn State guard Rasir Bolton, detailed by The Undefeated, about "loosening a noose" around Bolton's neck, in reference to alleviating the potential pressure the former Nittany Lion was feeling.

"This has been an incredibly hard year for me and my family, and we are in need of a break to re-set and chart our path forward", a statement from Chambers reads in part.

Director of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Sandy Barbour He said the school accepted the resignation - saying it was "in the interest of Pennsylvania, our program, and our student-athletes".

"I am so proud of all our program has accomplished these past nine years, and I will be forever grateful to the Penn State community for its ongoing support", Chambers said in his statement, via ESPN.

The 49-year-old coach had been at Penn State since 2011. He was previously the head basketball coach at Duquesne University from 2012-17.

Bolton transferred from Penn State to Iowa State during the summer of 2019.

Legendary Kapil Dev Hospitalised After Suffering Heart Attack
He made over 9,000 runs in global cricket as well as taken 387 wickets across 131 test matches and 225 One Day Internationals. One of the finest allrounders in the history of the game, the former cricketer represented India for well over a decade.

"Our current players, many of them have good relationships with him", Barbour said.

Barbour said the university will do a national search, but added that she "would love to see Coach Ferry have the kind of success" that would give Ferry an opportunity to earn the job. The team has been on a positive trajectory and has responded well to Coach Chambers' efforts, on and off the court.

Bolton said that during a particularly hard stretch for the team in January 2019, Chambers told him: "I want to loosen the noose that's around your neck".

"So, I take a step back to preparing myself for the next 20 years".

"This has been an incredibly hard year for me and my family, and we are in need of a break to re-set and chart our path forward", he said.

Chambers, whose 18 wins against ranked teams are the most in PSU history, apologized for the comment. The start of the NCAA basketball season is slated for November 25.

She said the final report on the investigation was received within the last two weeks.
