His comments came as days of renewed fighting have plagued the southern Helmand province, a longtime Taliban stronghold.

An Afghan military air strike targeting Taliban fighters killed at least 12 people, including children, and wounded 14 in an attack that hit a religious school in the northeastern province of Takhar, two provincial officials said on Thursday.

In recent weeks, Afghan government forces have sustained many casualties during intense fighting in Takhar province.

The strike occurred on October 21 in the Baharak district, where Taliban fighters had killed over 40 Afghan security forces earlier that day, provincial councilor Mohammad Azam Afzali told dpa.

"The Taliban rebels launched multi-pronged offensive on a military base known as Dehmazang in Khosh Rod district at 1:00 a.m. local time Friday and after killing 20 soldiers they took all the weapons and ammunitions from the base and retreated", Watandost told Xinhua.

In a Facebook post, Saleh also threatened legal action against those "who make false allegations", but he did not share details about the suspected detainee.

Other national issues such as the constitution and the type of government should be left for a later discussion after restoration of peace, the Afghan leader said, adding that these issues were for Afghans to decide and external forces had no right to decide those matters.

The US, as per the report, was helping the Taliban even when warplanes undertook strikes against the terror group in different parts of Afghanistan.

"The news of the killing of children in a mosque in Takhar is baseless". She demanded an impartial investigation into the airstrike.

However, local officials said all 12 of those killed were civilians, and that the airstrike targeted a mosque.

Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh, the official in question, denied on Twitter that any civilians had died in the air raid. "The free expression rights of those reporting on alleged violations should be respected". This has led to many personnel of the Afghan forces being martyred.
