Tesla's Full Self Driving Mode Is About To Get More Expensive, Again

Tesla's self-driving mode is rolling out for the first time

Earlier this month, Tesla Inc chief executive Elon Musk indicated that the company could make a foray into India in 2021. It's now listed at $8,000 on the Tesla website.

The planned rollout is in line for Tesla's plans, which include a fleet of Robotaxis that will require both the ability to handle zero-intervention drives and the "Car Access" feature, which will enable Tesla owners to decide who is authorized to enter and use the Tesla.

Elon Musk's electric-car maker delivered almost 140,000 vehicles last quarter, fueling record operating income of $809 million and free cash flow of $1.4 billion.

If you snag the current $8,000 price for FSD, you're (in theory) locking in future capabilities for your electric vehicle.

USA approves $1.8 billion Taiwan arms sale
Like most countries, the USA has no formal diplomatic ties with Taipei, though it is its strongest global backer. Beijing, which regards Taiwan as a renegade province, has since endeavored to bring the island into its fold.

The automaker's stock price has soared nearly five-fold this year, giving the group a bigger market capitalization than Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, or JPMorgan Chase. Just this summer, Tesla bumped the price up another $1,000 - for autonomous features that weren't available until Tuesday night to a small group of select drivers. Musk said early Thursday the price would rise by $2,000 on Monday, but later in the day tweeted USA price hikes would be pushed to Thursday next week.

The US auto safety regulator said on Thursday it was closely watching Tesla Inc's release of a software version meant to allow its cars to drive themselves, saying it stood ready to protect the public against safety risks. "We're starting very slow and very cautiously because the world is a complex and messy place", Musk said on the call.

Benzinga's Take: Musk has been excited about the Cybertruck for many years, and it seems Tesla is still on track to produce and deliver the vehicle when it first expected.

The Neural Network has already received data from over 3 billion miles' worth of driving and, based on the strong and rising sales of Tesla vehicles, is likely to rapidly accelerate its collection of data.
