Trump Plans Hunter Biden Associate as Debate Guest

High stakes for Trump, Biden heading into final debate

The Democrat's political advertisements have become much more prevalent on American television, with the disclosures showing that in the first two weeks of October, Biden spent at least $127 million on advertising, while Trump spent at least $45 million.

He avoided that pitfall on Thursday during an exchange over race relations, during which he touted his criminal-justice reform law, which effectively rolled back some aspects of the tough-on-crime legislation sponsored by Biden in the 1990s that resulted in long prison sentences for millions of Black people.

A planned second debate on October15 was cancelled after 74-year-old Trump refused to do a virtual face-off with 77-year-old Biden despite concerns over the president's COVID-19 diagnosis.

Trump defended his management of the nation's most deadly health crisis in a century, dismissing Biden's warning that the nation had a "dark winter ahead" due to spikes in infections.

Trump had no mask.

Anxious that Trump could lose the White House and cost Republicans the Senate, some advisers urged him to trade his aggressive demeanor from the first debate for a lower-key style and put the spotlight on Biden, whom he derides as "Sleepy Joe".

Trump insisted he had done a good job with a worldwide pandemic and said the country needs to "learn to live with it".

Trump trails Biden in most national public opinion polls but the contest looks closer in a number of states that could determine the victor.

New Jersey judge throws out Trump campaign mail-in ballot lawsuit
Biden leads Trump in national opinion polls, although surveys in crucial battleground states indicate a tighter race. A Clark County, Nev. election worker scans mail-in ballots on October 20, 2020 in North Las Vegas.

Trump repeatedly claimed Biden's plan to tackle climate change and invest in green industries was developed by "AOC plus three", referring to New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. "I've seen firsthand that that's not true, because it wasn't just Hunter's business, they said they were putting the Biden family name and its legacy on the line".

'He embraces guys, the thugs like in North Korea and the Chinese President and Putin and others and he pokes his finger in the eye of all of our friends, all of our allies, ' Biden accused of the president.

Trump says that nobody has been tougher on Russian Federation through sanctions and pushing for increased military spending by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

Despite historic tumult, the race has remained largely unchanged with Biden holding advantages in many battleground states while Trump faces a shortage of campaign cash and, crucially, time. A record 47 million Americans already have cast ballots, eclipsing total early voting from the 2016 election.

The hour-and-a-half event moderated by NBC News' Kristen Welker will be televised by ABC, CBS, CNN, C-SPAN, FOX, NBC, PBS, Telemundo, and Univision and livestreamed on YouTube by various sources, including "PBS NewsHour". And questions swirled beforehand as to how Trump, whose hectoring performance at the first debate was viewed by aides as a mistake that turned off viewers, would perform amid a stretch of the campaign in which he has taken angry aim at the news media and unleashed deeply personal attacks on Biden and his adult son. He then invited them to watch as audience members.

Turning to the camera and the millions watching at home, he said, "It's not about his family and my family".

Lemire reported from Washington, Price from Las Vegas.
