Bamford treble fires Leeds into third as Villa suffer first defeat

Leeds United's English striker Patrick Bamford holds the match ball after scoring a hat trick at the end of the English Premier League football match between Aston Villa and Leeds United at Villa Park in Birmingham central England

Following Marcelo Bielsa's side 3-0 win at Villa Park on Friday night, which ended their 100% start to the season, Leeds' official Twitter account couldn't help but hit back at Gabby Agbonlahor for his previous comments aimed at the club. "I will be telling my kids about this", Bamford said after becoming only the second player to score in each of the Whites' opening three top-flight away games since Gordon Hodgson in 1937-38.

Villa had started the season in fine form with wins over Sheffield United, Fulham, Liverpool and Leicester City ensuring they remained the only team left with maximum points.

Despite promotion from the Championship last season, it looks like Leeds have more than just surviving in the Premier League on their minds this year and the early signs are that they can be aiming for a top-1o finish.

"Very happy for Patrick because he scored some wonderful goals".

Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa stressed the game was important to the team after Monday's Wolves defeat.

"That is the first time we have been behind in a game and we didn't handle it very well".

Jack Grealish, one of Aston Villa's main men in attack, shot from inside the box, the ball went past the Leeds Unied keeper, but Luke Ayling made a brilliant goal line clearance!

Showcasing the skill that has prompted many to question England manager Gareth Southgate's decision not to use him more often, Grealish twisted past the Leeds defence with some nimble footwork before Illan Meslier smothered his shot.

Three minutes later though Aston Villa found themselves behind, when a Rodrigo shot was pushed out by Emiliano Martinez and Bamford pounced to slot home the loose ball.

Patrick Bamford scored a second-half hat trick.

Smashing a blistering strike into the top corner from the edge of the area, Bamford gave Martinez no chance.
