Apple releases TensorFlow fork with speed-ups for M1 Macs

MacBook Air

This article is looking exclusively at the performance of the Apple M1 ARM processor performance on macOS 11.0 Big Sur and not that of Linux. M1 chips in new Macs replace the use of the Intel x86 processor, but can run existing software compiled for the x86 by way of Apple's Rosetta2 binary translation technology.

As pointed out by 9to5Mac, popular apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Snapchat, Reddit, Messenger, TikTok, and Spotify are not yet available officially on the on new Apple M1 powered 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air, and the Mac Mini. For performance-sensitive applications, it makes sense to compile them to run natively on the M1. Overall I must say I am rather pleasantly impressed by the performance of the M1 8-core CPU (4 big cores, 4 small cores) and integrated graphics.

West wants to undermine Nagorno Karabakh peace deal, warns Russian Federation
Before Tonoyan's excusal was declared, an underlying report by Armenian paper Aravot had said he had offered his acquiescence. Most of Azerbaijan's south-western district of Aghdam has been under the control of Armenian separatists since 1993.

"We also installed the beta version of Big Sur 11.1, because we know it has some critical fixes to Rosetta". I am now working on alternatives to workaround those limitations but for this article today it means just looking at the raw performance. According to 9to5 Mac's Stephen Hall, the M1 MacBook Air started showing signs of slowing down after he worked on multiple heavy software, something that MacBook air users are not meant to do. Well, is it because of the performance improvement only that Apple ditched Intel?

Apple has long said the best PC to run Windows on is a Mac, and this may be especially true of we were talking about Windows 10 in ARM, with Apple's new M1 processor outclassing the best Qualcomm has been able to offer. Xcode provided the default compiler (LLVM Clang) across all tested systems.
