China refutes Five Eyes statement over top legislature's HK decision

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian takes a question at the daily media briefing in Beijing

He added that since the implementation of the HKSAR national security law, there has been no more so-called "beautiful sight to behold" in Hong Kong. Standing Committee's recent decision concerning the eligibility of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Legislative Council members is erroneously deemed a "clear breach" of Hong Kong's demonstrated autonomy, free speech liberties, and the "Sino-British Joint Declaration". The brothers had made a decision to set up their own establishment after often finding themselves seated next to the toilets in other restaurants because many owners at the time thought Chinese were not important customers. From that single restaurant in Central where the Landmark now stands, Maxim's has come a long way to become Hong Kong's largest restaurant group, with over 1,700 outlets and 24,000 staff in Hong Kong, China, Cambodia and Vietnam. It operates popular Chinese restaurant chains Jade Garden and Peking Garden, as well as western restaurants including Lawry's The Prime Rib, Italian deluxe bakery Cova, and Japanese restaurants such as Genki Sushi. In August, member states claimed China was "eroding the Hong Kong people's fundamental rights and liberties" through the law, refusing to factor support from almost six dozen countries that could judiciously distinguish China's sovereign imperatives from political sensationalism.

In a joint statement, the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK called on the Chinese government to reconsider actions against Hong Kong's legislature and reinstate the disqualified LegCo members.

It is with this understanding that the Five Eyes' latest accusations are no less distorted.

"We are deeply concerned by recent developments there, including China's passing of national security legislation for Hong Kong and recent arrests of, and disqualification of, elected Legislative Council lawmakers", Mahuta said. Five Eyes reminds us of its minimum embrace of evidence, having suggested that both Chinese and Hong Kong authorities were not doing enough for the people of Hong Kong to express their "legitimate concerns and opinions". "Courts in Hong Kong are being interfered with by the Beijing authorities and the rule of law in Hong Kong exists in name only".

They accuse Beijing of a concerted campaign to silence critical voices by undermining the rights of people in Hong Kong to elect their representatives.

December rollout possible for Pfizer’s COVID vaccine - scientist
Pfizer said vaccine was well-tolerated and that side effects were mostly mild to moderate, and cleared up quickly. The vaccines contain custom-made messenger molecules that instruct cells to create a part of the coronavirus .

The regime is lashing out at Five Eyes nations for speaking out about anti-democracy moves in Hong Kong.

China's foreign ministry spokesperson, Zhao Lijian, replied with: "No matter if they have five eyes or 10 eyes, if they dare to harm China's sovereignty, security and development interests, they should beware of their eyes being poked and blinded".

We have stated China's solemn position on the relevant issue on many occasions. "It's important to seek bipartisan support because supporting Hong Kong is not a matter of left or right, it's a matter of right or wrong". In fact, there is a solid chance that none of the Five Eyes member states would tolerate external interference in their own sovereign affairs.

It is against this sovereignty benchmark that China's internal affairs are no exception.
