A Wipeout contestant has died after going into cardiac arrest once he completed the course.
The contestant, who has not been identified except for his gender, needed medical attention after competing on Wednesday, a source close to production tells Yahoo Entertainment. Paramedics were then called and the man was taken to a local hospital, but he later passed away.
We're told there are precautions and safeguards in place on set. Two paramedics are also on-site, along with a safety producer and a paramedic coordinator.
He'll be joined by co-host Nicole Bayer and Camille Kostek.
As of this writing, there's no word yet on how this will affect future episodes of the show as it's now in production.
Immunization against COVID-19 could last years, study claims
Exposure to cigarette smoke makes airway cells more vulnerable to infection with the new coronavirus , UCLA researchers found. The MMR II vaccine, manufactured by Merck and licensed in 1979, works by triggering the immune system to produce antibodies.
"Wipeout" previously aired on ABC from 2008 until 2014.
Endemol Shine North America, the production company behind the show, released a statement offering their condolences to the unnamed contestant.
The reboot, which follows the three rounds and a three-stage, obstacle course "consisting of multiple strategy and decision points created to further challenge and wear out the stamina" of participants, was picked up by TBS earlier this year, and is scheduled to air sometime in 2021. No premiere date had been set yet. The TBS spokesperson said that they are "devastated to have learned of his passing", and their "deepest sympathy goes out to the family".
There's no word yet on how this tragedy might impact the return of the series, but stay tuned as we will keep you updated.
