LA County Under Mandatory Overnight Curfew Starting Saturday Night

Los Angeles County health officials on Thursday announced 5,031 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day total reported since the pandemic began. This will take effect at 10pm on Saturday and remain for 1 month.

According to ABC, California Governor Gavin Newsom has "announced a limited Stay at Home Order requiring generally that non-essential work, movement and gatherings stop between 10 PM and 5 AM in counties in the purple tier".

Starting Friday, Los Angeles County will order restaurants and nonessential stores to close at 10 p.m. and place a cap on the number of people allowed at outdoor gatherings - a maximum of 15 people from no more than three households.

The coronavirus continues to rampage through California at a record rate, prompting the state to reimpose restrictions not seen since the early days of the pandemic in a bid to beat back the accelerating surge.

"We hope today's actions, our collective coming together, our resolve to keep our protective behaviors up, will help us stem the tide and bring these surging numbers down very, very soon", Ghaly said.

'It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. "If we don't make these decisions now, there really is only one outcome: We will nearly certainly have to shut things down again".

Newsom referred to the order in a tweet as a "limited stay-at-home order".

Immunization against COVID-19 could last years, study claims
Exposure to cigarette smoke makes airway cells more vulnerable to infection with the new coronavirus , UCLA researchers found. The MMR II vaccine, manufactured by Merck and licensed in 1979, works by triggering the immune system to produce antibodies.

While many residents worry about the severity of the order, the states Health and Human Services Secretary, Dr. Mark Ghaly, has said the measures could be worse.

"We are asking Californians to change their personal behaviors to stop the surge. Letting our guard down could put thousands of lives in danger and cripple our health care system", said Dr. Erica Pan, the state's acting Public Health Officer. The state's positivity rate now stands at five percent - up 1.7 percent from November 5.

Orange County in California is the third most populous county in the state and the sixth most populous county in the United States, and it has a greater population than 21 states. Purple, or Tier 1, is the most severe level, indicating that the virus is widespread in the county, with more than seven cases per 100,000 residents.

Late last week, the state issued a travel advisory, along with OR and Washington, urging people entering the state OR returning home from travel outside the state to self-quarantine to slow the spread of the virus.

California was the first state to issue a lockdown order in March for its 40 million residents.

On Monday, Newsom stated he was considering a possible statewide curfew as he was pulling an "emergency break" on reopening.
