Stephen A. Smith Rips Saints For Starting Hill Over Jameis Winston

Brees was removed from the team's Week 10 game due to fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.

The latest Drew Brees injury seemed to spark an internal tug-of-war over whether he'd be placed on injured reserve. The deal included a $16 million signing bonus.

There was speculation that former Heisman Trophy victor Jameis Winston would get the nod, but apparently that is not the case. Given that this is a division rival and that Winston was the starter for another division rival, the Falcons' have plenty of experience with both quarterbacks.

With Brees out, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said Taysom Hill was practicing with the first-team offense this week.

California's governor imposes 10pm curfew across the state as coronavirus cases surge
The "Purple Tier" refers to the Golden State's color-coded system that is based on the number of coronavirus cases in each county. This limited stay-at-home order is created to reduce opportunities for disease transmission.

Hill has been with New Orleans since his rookie season in 2017 and this offseason signed a two-year extension worth about $21 million, a signal that the Saints considered him a legitimate candidate to step in when Brees retires. He has thrown 86 yards on 4-of-5 passing, turned 34 carries into 186 yards and a touchdown, and six catches into 74 yards and another score this season.

This season, Brees has thrown for 2,196 yards, 18 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The Falcons have played against Hill for the past few years, but this will be one of the most interesting games to plan for in Payton's tenure as Saints head coach.

Do you think the Saints should bring in a specialist to take a look at Brees? He was the quarterback who replaced Brees in the Saints' win against the 49ers, but it remains to be seen what kind of role he will have on Sunday. The veteran was likely to miss at least two games.

The Saints' decision to start Hill is a reminder that coach Sean Payton and team executives have always maintained that Hill could be a starting National Football League quarterback.
