Again, Apple to pay $113m as settlement for throttling older iPhones

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich stated in a complaint that several users decided that the only way to get enhanced performance was to buy a newer-model iPhone from the company.

Apple Inc. will pay $113 million to resolve allegations the company misled consumers and masked iPhone battery performance issues, with a portion of the total settlement going to various California agencies, including the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, it was announced Wednesday.

The update claims to offer an optimized battery charging, especially for the Apple AirPods to slow the rate of battery ageing by reducing the time the AirPods spend fully charged. A French competition watchdog fined the company $US27 million in February for purposefully slowing performance on older iPhones without telling users about it.

The investigation has now concluded, and Apple has opted to pay $113 million to settle the matter, reports The Washington Post.

Sources cite that Apple quietly updated software on the iPhone 6, 7, and SE models in 2016 to curb chip speeds so that aging phone batteries on the smartphones wouldn't send power spikes to the iPhone's processor and cause it to suddenly shut down. Some users were not able to accept incoming calls either because of this issue. Apple is yet to give its comment.

Liverpool boost: Van Djik begins new rehab phase
The Ballon d'Or victor explained: "I have no doubts if these players were fit, then Liverpool are the best team in the land". Salah is out of Sunday's game after a second positive test for coronavirus while with the Egypt national team this week.

Apple eventually accepted the settlement and agreed to replace old batteries at a heavily-discounted price.

The settlement may sound enormous, but it's worth bearing in mind that Apple boasts an annual revenue of $275 billion - approximately €232 billion.

However, legal challenges continued.

A judge must still approve the agreement, which is separate from a class-action lawsuit in which Apple agreed to pay $500 million to iPhone owners in March. The funds will cover attorneys' fees and will be used to fund future consumer protection investigators.

The tech titan also agreed for the next three years to provide "truthful information" about iPhone power management across its website, software update notes and iPhone settings. "I'm committed to holding these goliath technology companies accountable when they hide important information from users".
