South Australia Police Investigate Pizza Shop Employee Who Tested COVID-19 Positive

A Woodville Pizza Bar employee lied to contact tracers about working at the restaurant which led to a state-wide lockdown in South Australia officials said on Friday

"Just as we acted immediately to put in place restrictions to keep South Australian residents safe, we will work to lift them much sooner than we previously recommended", he said.

The man told contract tracers he was simply a customer at Woodville Pizza Bar, leading health officials to believe a super strain of the virus had taken root in the area.

The pizza shop in Adelaide's north has been under police guard since Premier Steven Marshall made the shock revelations about the worker's lie on Friday.

South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has revealed more details about the employee and confirmed police were investigating the pizza bar further.

South Australia will end its "circuit breaker" lockdown tonight, three days earlier than officially planned, after it was discovered that a man connected to a recent outbreak lied to contact tracers.

But what he did not say initially was they he'd worked several shifts at the restaurant and was infected with the coronavirus along with another close contact of his who also worked at the pizza bar, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. It's unclear why the man misled contract tracers, the report said.

"This person's failure to be truthful with contact tracers means his close associates - who we understand he's had close contact with - haven't been identified and are now in the community", Stevens pointed out.

Mr Stevens said it was "fair to say that had this person been more upfront with us we would not have instituted a six-day lockdown".

UK PM says military budget cuts era over
It represents roughly a 10 percent increase, the country's largest military investment since the end of the Cold War. Anti-poverty campaigners urged the government to not backtrack on commitments it made to the developing world.

The modelling drove her decision to enter a hard lockdown and "supercharge" contact tracing efforts, she said.

"This was not something I felt we should be allowing to happen in South Australia", Prof Spurrier said.

There have now been more than 5400 close contacts identified to the cluster in Adelaide with Professor Spurrier saying more positive cases are to be expected.

The state of Victoria yesterday reported its 21st day of zero cases.

However, Mr Marshall added that the threat to his state from the cluster of cases has not passed.

South Australia will revert to a series of similar restrictions imposed at the beginning of the week from midnight on Saturday.

SA Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier released modelling she said showed South Australia was at risk of a major "second wave" before the lockdown was announced this week.

But health officials have said that the situation is still unsafe and the new cluster of 25 infections is expected to grow over the next few days.
