Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson speaks during the weekly question-time debate at the House of Commons in London, Britain, Nov 11, 2020.

The plans include the creation of an agency dedicated to artificial intelligence, and a "space command" capable of launching the UK's first rocket by 2022.

"I know the prime minister is always keen to talk about the bits of government he enjoys - big announcements, space programmes, moonshots", he said.

"This is our chance to end the era of retreat, transform our Armed Forces, bolster our global influence, unite and level up our country, pioneer new technology and defend our people and way of life", Boris said.

"Based on our assessment of the worldwide situation and our foreign policy goals, I have decided that the era of cutting our defense budget must end, and it ends now", he said.

"Since the Cold War the threat from our adversaries has been evolving".

Britain's main opposition Labour's Party said the increase was long overdue after the ruling Conservative government had cut the size of the armed forces by a quarter in the last decade.

These new commitments backed by government funding send a clear signal to industries across the British economy to invest in the United Kingdom, which is why today the Prime Minister will host a virtual roundtable with green investors to set out his ambitious plan and incentivise further private sector investment. Johnson, who is grappling with Europe's most deadly COVID-19 crisis, Brexit trade negotiations, and the departure of his most senior adviser, wants to underscore his green credentials as part of what he hopes will be a reset for his government.

Britain May Allow Christmas As COVID Cases Start To Flatten
Sage said the reproduction number - or R value - for the whole of the United Kingdom had dropped to between 1 and 1.1. Mr Hancock went on to say that government officials were working hard to map out an "agreed set of rules".

"It bears absolutely no relation to discussions about overseas aid", he said.

There has been speculation the aid budget will be slashed from 0.7% of national income to 0.5% in next week's spending review as Whitehall is forced to tighten its belt in response to the economic damage caused by coronavirus.

Johnson, who has promised to increase Britain's offshore wind power to 40 gigawatts by 2030 from around 10 GW now, pledged up to 500 million pounds for projects trailing the use of hydrogen including for home heating and cooking. It represents roughly a 10 percent increase, the country's largest military investment since the end of the Cold War.

Anti-poverty campaigners urged the government to not backtrack on commitments it made to the developing world.

BRITAIN'S vehicle industry faces a "cliff-edge" target to meet Boris Johnson's ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in ten years' time.

Almost £500 million to be spent in the next four years for the development and mass-scale production of electric vehicle batteries, as part of our commitment to provide up to £1 billion, boosting worldwide investment into our strong manufacturing bases including in the Midlands and North East.

The plans contain broader aims to make Britain a "world-leader" in carbon capture technology and the City of London a "global centre of green finance".
