Holidays are worth the COVID-19 risk to one-third of parents

Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad yesterday to review the overall situation of the pandemic in the country, the prime minister had directed to take all possible measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and to protect the lives of common people.

To better understand how the novel coronavirus presents itself in children, researchers looked at symptom patterns in children followed by Alberta Public Health who had swabs done for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, between April 13 and September 30.

The study found that, of the children who tested positive for COVID-19, 25.5 per cent had fever or chills, 24.5 per cent had a cough and 19 per cent had a runny nose.

Children aged four and younger were more likely to test negative, and teenagers (ages 13 to 17) were more likely to test positive.

More than 12.4 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus in the United States as of Tuesday, according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center.

Symptoms of fever or chills, cough and runny nose in this study (19 to 26 per cent) were less frequent than in studies conducted in hospital settings.

"We all know that large public gatherings carry great risks of spreading COVID-19", Clark said in a statement.
